Meow Gallery Pro is now available here for all you photography lovers who use WordPress as your gallery website.
GPLShare friends! This plugin is really interesting to discuss because it brings a philosophy that is in stark contrast to other gallery plugins on the market. While most gallery plugins try to become a “standalone operating system” inside your WordPress by creating a separate media database, dozens of settings menus, and bloated JavaScript code, Meow Gallery Pro instead chooses the Native and Ultra-Lightweight path. Interesting, right?
What is the main advantage of Meow Gallery Pro?
Its main advantage lies in its integration that blends with the WordPress core.
Here are the details:
- This plugin does not create a new media library. Your image files remain fully managed by the WordPress Media Library.
- Gutenberg Native, which means Meow Gallery merges directly into the block. You don’t need to open an external pop-up builder; simply add the built-in gallery block or the custom block from Meow Apps right inside the editor.
- If one day you deactivate this plugin, your galleries won’t break or display messy raw shortcodes. The gallery automatically falls back to the standard WordPress grid display.
Responsive Layouts
The Pro version brings layout variations intentionally built with modern CSS, so the JavaScript load stays minimal.
What are the layouts? Check out some of them below:
- Tiles Layout, arranges photos in a tight, aesthetic mosaic orientation without cropping important parts of the image.
- Masonry & Justified, a column style with uneven heights (Masonry) or automatic row alignment just like the Flickr platform (Justified).
- Carousel (Pro) turns the gallery into a responsive horizontal slider and supports touch-swipe navigation.
- Map Layout (Pro), well… this is a very complex feature. If your photos have EXIF GPS data or are geotagged, Meow Gallery Pro can automatically read that metadata and display your photos on an interactive map based on where they were taken.
Meow Gallery: Its Advanced Features
For those of you who are photographers or manage a web portfolio with thousands of assets, the following features are essential:
Infinite Loading & Lazy Load (Pro)
A feature to stop loading images that haven’t entered the user’s screen viewport. For galleries with hundreds of high-resolution photos, this feature keeps your site’s Core Web Vitals green.
WP/LR Sync (Lightroom) Integration
If you edit photos using Adobe Lightroom, Meow Gallery Pro integrates with the WP/LR Sync plugin from the same developer. Your photo collections in Lightroom can be synced directly to WordPress galleries along with their metadata.
Works with other Meow Apps plugins
This plugin is indeed deliberately built to work with other components such as Meow Lightbox and Media Cleaner made by Meow Apps itself.
Conclusion & GPLShare’s View
In the GPLShare community or among premium plugin collectors, Meow Gallery Pro is often sought after by those who are tired of the saturation and sluggishness of big plugins like NextGEN Gallery or Envira Gallery. This plugin is highly recommended if your main goal is website loading speed, ease of management, and modern minimalist aesthetics.
